Perfect Moment Monday: Our Wild Kingdom

Perfect Moment Monday is about noticing a perfect moment rather than creating one. Perfect moments can be momentous or ordinary or somewhere in between.
When we were newlyweds, our apartment patio backed up to woods. Inspired by my mother-in-law's love for birds, I hung my first birdseed bell, eager to meet our new visitors.

More than a decade (and several houses) later, I've expanded our backyard welcome mat to include 3 feeders, a bird bath fountain, and a wooden bird house. Last year we watched as one squatter carried supplies into the birdhouse. This year we giggled at the sound of tiny chirps from inside. What's more, we found two robins' nests in our bushes and welcomed those peach-fuzzed baby birds into the world. We found a third nest (perhaps a sparrow's) complete with its new bundles of joy.

The birds must have spread the word along with their wings (since I don't think they've "Like"d us on Facebook.) Our newest visitors included a rabbit and her 4 new bunnies. Watching their antics one evening with our 6-year-old was probably the best half-hour my husband and I have spent in a while.

If you build it, they will come, and they might even bring perfect moments as housewarming presents.
