~ Eric Liddell
In shock after her husband was killed by a drunk driver while living in Thailand, Janelle Shantz Hertzler began searching for a way through the pain. Her struggle to make sense of her loss and find peace resulted in this moving collection of heart-felt poetry and inspiring photography. Seasons of Solace expresses the spiritual journey of a grieving woman moving toward acceptance, but its broader truths of life and death, love and sorrow, allow each reader to find his or her own story in its pages.
"Though these poems and photos are an expression of a journey through grief, my hope is that they will be meaningful to people in all seasons of life. Loss is something we all face, and I hope that you will be encouraged to find your own way to give expression to your journey as you read mine"
~ Janelle Shantz Hertzler
Janelle's photography and poetic insights touched my heart in a deep and profound way. My favorite poem from Seasons of Solace, Let Me Wrestle, could have easily been written during my experience with infertility:
Let Me Wrestle
"God will get you through."
There are tears in his eyes;
I want to kick him.
A mental answer for the brain,
yet my heart is raging.
Can't you let my world be out of control?
Do you need to fix everything?
Can't you let the rage be what it is?
Let me wrestle with God
through this night
and trust one morning
it will turn into a dance.
